8th Grade D.C. Trip Information and Reminders…
KMS 8th graders will be taking its annual trip from May 15th to May 20th. To help you and your child in preparation a summary of departure, packing suggestions are included as well as a PDF with the list of daily activities and sites the students will visit. To find the itinerary, please click here
Assembly and Departure:
1. Students will assemble in the KMS gymnasium between 8:20 pm and 8:45 pm on Tuesday: May 15, 2012. At 8:45 pm students, faculty, and chaperones will start to load buses with departure time set at 9:00 pm. Please don’t arrive prior to 8:20 pm.
- Parents may drop off students at the gymnasium entrance at back of KMS. Please do not park in the staff parking lot (south side of Robinson Football Field). This area has been reserved for the charter buses for both pick up and drop off. If you choose to do so, you may walk out to the parking lot to see your child off.
- Students should report to their chaperone groups in the gymnasium to collect their luggage tags, t-shirt, and for attendance. No student will be able to board a bus until the assigned chaperone grants permission.
Packing Reminders:
1. Students are limited to one suitcase (placed under the bus) and one
small carry-on. The carry-on bag must fit above the seat in the overhead
storage compartment while travel occurs. Please do not make your carry-on
a over-sized duffle bag. One of medium size should work fine.
2. You may bring a pillow and a blanket for the bus ride.
3. MP3 players, ipods, ipads, and hand-held devices/games are permitted with
headphones only. No boom boxes or laptops.
4. Pack anything that you will need for Wednesday in your carry-on bag. Your
suitcase will be packed under the bus Tuesday night and you will not have access
again until Wednesday evening at the hotel.
5. Appropriate dress code as established by Kenton Middle School will be in effect.
6. Suggested items to pack?
- Spring jacket or sweater
- 3 to 4 pair of jeans
- 4 shirts or blouses
- 4 changes of undergarments
- Pajamas
- Shoes (comfortable shoes as we will be doing a lot of walking)
- Watch and Sunglasses
- Deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb or brush
- Suntan lotion
- Camera (pack enough film or buy disposable camera’s prior to leaving Kenton as they are very expensive to purchase in Washington)
- Each student is responsible for his/her own clothing, money and equipment. Make sure your luggage tags remain on your suitcase for the duration of the trip.
- As for monies, it is suggested that each student have a $25.00 daily
spending limit. If you are using traveling checks, make sure that you have
a valid Ohio I.D. so you can cash them at the hotel.
- If weather permits, walking shorts are permitted. Please make sure they
are adequate length. It would not hurt to pack a pair or two in case of
hot weather.
7. You may pack snacks for the bus ride and for the hotel rooms. Any drinks that you
chose to pack MUST be plastic bottles with resealable caps to prevent from spilling
or breaking. No glass or can beverages will be permitted on the bus. You may
pack any type of snack food but all trash be placed in the garbage and not left on
the bus floors.
8 You may bring your cell phone. This should only be used to call home in the
evenings or in the mornings before daily tours. You will not be able to call friends
on your bus or other buses during the trip. You may carry your phone with you,
but it should be turned off. Each chaperone will give the student(s) his/her cell
phone number and you may use phone to call them in an emergency or get lost.
Your phone will be confiscated if you call other students and/or rings during the
trip. It should be used for emergency use and to call home in the evenings only.
Should your phone get confiscated, it will be returned to you at the conclusion of
the trip.
